My Music Video Pitch

My song:

The song I have chosen is Hex- Kids love lies. The category of genre this song falls into is indie.

Mise en scene

Location-

Garage- Parts of my video will be performance based, therefore I will set up a band in a garage with the main singer being a female. Consequently, this fits the genre as it clearly shows an inexpensive scene; which is normally usual for indie music videos. This will also create a dark eerie atmosphere, as the lightening in the garage will be dimmed. I aim to get long shots of the band whilst they are performing in the garage, while also getting mid-shots of each member in the band as this will create a band profile for the audience.

Bedroom- Due to the lyrics being about her boyfriend bringing her down 'I didn't think you'd be the one to take me down'. Therefore some of my video will also be a narrative of a girlfriend and boyfriend. At first they will be okay in a happy relationship, however throughout the video their relationship will deteriorate and I will get shots of them arguing. I will use the location of the bedroom to show them arguing and also get close ups of the female looking clearly unhappy and ripping up pictures of her and her boyfriend, showing to the audience that their relationship is distressing her.

Streets- I will get shots of singer messing around on the streets whilst lip syncing, there will be many close ups of her face, to attract the target audience. This is also stereotypical location for a indie band as it is also inexpensive.

Clothing-

In each different setting the clothing of the band/singer will be different. Therefore, in the shots of the singer in the garage she will be wearing ripped jeans, vans and a leather jacket as this is casual wear and fits the genre and her make-up will be bold and smoky. The rest of the band will be wearing similar clothing. For the rest of the shots the main singer will be in a variety of clothing such as cigarette black high waisted trousers and turtle necks as this also fits my genre as it's not a stereotype of a main lead female singer as that would usually be girly. Due to my genre being indie I will not be following the conventions of a female singer.

Props-

The props that will feature in my music video will be instruments for the band such as: a drum set, 1/2 guitars and a microphone and stand. Also due to some of the video following the narrative I will be using a mobile phone to present the relationship while also using photographs of the couple.

Target Audience-

The indie genre usually has the target audience of teenage males and females. Therefore due to the lead singer of the band being a female singer, this could appeal to a more female audience as they would envy/look up to her. My bands target audience would therefore be around the ages of 16 - early 20's, as I believe an audience of this age would be able to relate to the lyrics as they are about love, heartbreak and rebellion. Due to studying as media, I learnt about different income brackets, therefore with the target audience being predominantly students, I believe they would fall under bracket E as they would have a small income due to being unemployed or having part time jobs.

My ideas

The opening scene of my music video will be of the band walking into a garage and getting their instruments set up, therefore this will immediately allow the audience to see the band behind the song. The shot will then cut to a two shot of the lead singer and her boyfriend happy in her bedroom. Then there will be a long shot of the band playing their instruments, while the lead singer is lip syncing to the song. I will then do close ups of the lead singer lip syncing and cut to shots of her and her boyfriend arguing. Consequently, my music video will be following a narrative of a girl being unhappy with her boyfriend and them two arguing as this links to the lyrics. Also there will be shots of the band performing the song; which will make my music video an amplification.

Mise en scene for my music video

About the band and song I have chosen

Searching for an artist

I was given the task of finding a unsigned artist/band. Therefore I began looking at different types of genres of music videos, I looked at house music videos, RnB videos and Indie videos. After looking into each genre thoroughly and researching production elements of each genre, I came to the conclusion that it would be the best option to produce a indie music video as to produce the video it only entails a small expense; which means I would be able to create a good music video for the genre of my choice.

Once I decided on the genre for my music video, I then used the sites 'Unsignedartists.com' and 'Soundcloud.com', as both of these sites are specifically used for artists that have not been signed up yet to display their work with the hope that people will enjoy their music and they may get signed up one day.

After searching through these two sites, I did not come across any bands that I wanted to create a music video for. Therefore I then began to scroll through the social media site 'facebook' and that is where I came across the band 'Kids love lies'; where I listened to the song 'Hex'. I instantly liked the concept of the song and thought I could come up with some good ideas to create a music video for this song. With a fast paced song I knew I'd be able to work with different varieties of camera shots and effects to create a good music video; while also editing the shots to the beat of the song. I also believe the target audience of this band is teenagers; which allowed me to relate to the song as I am in this age range.
